History of Artefact It belonged to one of the officers on the Mary Rose. It was found in a chest – only the officers would have these chests. It was found on the main deck towards the Stern. The Embriachi caskets come from Italy – from the fifteenth century. It is a religious object.

Special Memories ‘It’s very difficult to carve bone – it involves lots of small chisels and files. It’s very time consuming. They would probably have rubbed it with sand to smooth it down.‘
