History of Artefact It was bought on holiday in Nigeria. ‘I had been in England for thirty years and I went back on holiday. People lie on these and it helps with my memories. People have mats instead of carpets because they come in small pieces and can be moved around easily. It was bought in Owerri, Eastern Nigeria. They were made locally. The colours were brighter when it was first made but now they have faded.’

Special Memories ‘I bought this on a trip back to Nigeria having lived in England for thirty years. I had taken my children back to see where I came from. I moved to Portsmouth in the June of 1969.
It also reminds me that when you go shopping in Africa things don’t have prices on them, you have to barter for things. They will sit you down and give you a cold drink. If they think you aren’t local they will add extra money on to the price.’
